Everyone goes through their Second Saturn Return around the ages of 57 to 60, 29.5 years after the first Saturn return that occurs at the age of around 27 to 30. To determine the exact year of your Second Saturn Return, find out what sign you have Saturn in and look out for dates where Saturn transits into that sign.

After having gone through your First Saturn Return (~27 to 30 years old) you may think the Second Saturn Return would most probably be easier. While generally yes it is easier, there are a few factors in place.

  1. Have you truly learnt the lessons you needed to learn from your First Saturn Return?
  2. Did you stray away from what those lessons from your First Saturn Return taught you?
  3. Are you aligning yourself with your true purpose?

What does Saturn represent?

Saturn represents discipline, lessons, restrictions. A ‘discipline master’ so to speak. It’ll only be tough on you if you’ve strayed away from your purpose or lessons in this life. More often than not, acting like a traffic light, checking to see if you have enough fuel for your destination, if you’re safely seated with a seatbelt, enough cash on hand to pay tolls, car you’re driving is working well etc. The green light only goes on when everything is aligned properly and you’re free to carry on with your path.

Saturn is also about foundations. Have you built a strong enough foundation for you to flourish? In the context of your Second Saturn Return, have you built a solid base so that you’re able to retire and enjoy life? Or have you truly lived the life you wanted to live and are content or have enough for the next few decades?

If you haven’t read about your First Saturn Return, which occurs at the ages of around 27 to 30, it will be very helpful for you in knowing what your Second Saturn Return will entail. Of course, it’s heavily dependent on your Saturn sign, house, dignity and aspects as well as planetary transits that are happening during the time of your Second Saturn Return.

What happens during your Second Saturn Return?

Profection Houses 10th, 11th, 12th And 1st

The ages of 57 to 60 happen to be Annual Profection houses of your career and higher self, your friends and social groups, your subconscious and your own sense of self. While these are the general houses affected during your Second Saturn Return, it’ll still be helpful to know where the rulers and aspects are.

But with that as a baseline, you’ll get an idea of what it really is that you’ll be questioning and trying to align more to. Reflecting on your career thus far, the friendships you have kept or cut off, unconscious thoughts that make you question things and who it is you really are, your own sense of self apart from everything else around you.

From Routines To Soul Level Alignment

For most, this may be a time of retirement, or on their tail end of their career. Your life is mostly ‘in order’ according to societal standards, your children are adults living their own lives, you’re traveling here and there, catching up with friends etc. Like having a routine that you have done over and over again.

But of late, as you go about your life, there will be little voices deep within you, or a creep up from your subconscious, questioning what it really is that you want out of this life. The responsibilities you once had were fulfilled or rather, more stable, and now the focus is on you, yourself and your own sense of self.

It’s very new as the materiality of things may not seem as important as before and now you get to choose how it is you want to spend your life apart from the usual worries. Not that money or what was previously important to you suddenly isn’t anymore, but you’re now more at peace with where you’re at. You also come more into yourself, knowing who you are and who you are not, accepting that about yourself and others.

Awareness Of Time Being Finite

The old way in which you’re following through in life may not work anymore and you’re now defining your own path to happiness, living by your own rules. This may even spark an identity shift because your perspective on life is no longer the same. You understand that time is finite. Now that 60 years have passed, you’re being more aware of time itself.

Of what you want to leave behind, of how you want to spend the next few decades. You understand that you no longer have the luxury of time to delay things ‘till tomorrow’ or with a ‘wait til this and that happens first then I’ll do it’. Some may even begin acting on it immediately. But it’s also a time in which some will ‘surrender’ to the flow of life, not expecting too many changes except whatever time will do to a human body.

Reflecting On How Far You’ve Come

You also begin to look back at life when you were a teenager and working adult, worrying about the littlest of things. What seemed to be the world to you then seems so minuscule now. “How people thought of me”, “How am I doing in comparison to them”, “How can I be more like them”.

You begin to reflect on the good you’ve done, as well as the bad. Realising that you have come however far you have come, thinking on how you want the next few decades to look like. In a way more at peace with where you’re at, not comparing yourself to others but to your own sense of self. Have you truly lived life according to what you so desire? If not, how can you ensure the next few decades will be the best years of your life as your own true self?

Mentorship

Some will still have the drive to participate boldly in life and will actually come into more of an authoritative position, imparting wisdom and skills to others. Especially towards those that are younger, acting as that ‘disciplinarian teacher’ or rather mentor for them. This mentor/mentee relationship actually helps both parties.

What if you’re not at ‘peace’ and want more?

With all that said, if however, you’re not at peace at all, and have a desire for much more, it could be due to various factors.

  1. You may actually be starting a peak period where your career and status in life is actually just about to catapult, or at least move to the next stage. You’ve strived hard for the past ~60 years and you’re only now seeing the fruits of your labour. Not everyone sees success early on, some actually start seeing success only after their Second Saturn Return.
  2. You finally awaken to your own true self and pursue your own version of reality for yourself. In a way ‘abandoning’ the life you previously lived and are now truly living for yourself. Starting a journey where you’re now exploring more, desiring more for your new found true self.

Will it be as tough as your First Saturn Return?

If up till now you have not learned or accomplished the lessons that you came here to learn about, this period will actually be tougher on you, to truly get you to wise up and learn about it.

  1. This has mostly happened to those that have had it ‘easy’ in life up till this point, relying or even taking advantage of others to get through in life. They could also have been using ill means to rise up in their own life and in societal status. But Saturn after all is a planet of karma. Their Second Saturn Return will be the period in which they will get what is coming for them karmically, relative to however way they have managed their life up till this point.
  2. Some may also find it tough during this period as there are certain lessons that come with restrictions of the body when you’re at this age. This could be movement and health or other obligations that you chose to come here to learn about only when you have reached this age

How to cope with your Second Saturn Return?

Reflect On Your First Saturn Return

Think back on what happened during your first saturn return, at the ages of 27 to 30. Were there things you wanted to do but couldn’t due to obligations or circumstances? This may be a time in which you’re going back to whatever it was and actually fulfilling it now. Some who stopped pursuing higher educations may find themselves going back to complete that journey. Some who wanted to change to a certain profession but couldn’t, find themselves exploring that option again, whether in the capacity of a job or volunteer.

Apart from a certain journey or action, this could also be about lessons. Lessons of which will be related to your first saturn return. Things that you didn’t really learn about during your first saturn return, and are coming back this time during your second return. Almost like a reenactment especially if the way you handled it previously was running away from it instead of facing it head on and addressing it.

What Is Happiness To You?

Think about what happiness really means to you, apart from family obligations or societal constructs. This is a time to focus on what you specifically want and how you want to live your life for the next few decades, then acting on it at your own pace instead of just being aware of it and making excuses to avoid it yet again.

An Advisor/Mentor For Others

This could also be about imparting that knowledge to others. Whether it’s to family members, coworkers at work, or even people around you. It’s not a time to sit back and be passive but become more of that teacher that people can actively approach and learn from. You have much to teach others even though you may feel like you don’t. Step more into that authority instead of being closed off and not allowing others to reach out to you.

Tough Lessons You’ve ‘Skipped’

This is only going to be tougher if you have steered away from your own lessons in life. If you have been diligently putting in the work, according to your own lessons, this will be more of an authoritative position you’re stepping into. If you have previously been relying on others to get you through the tough times and lessons that you need to master in your own life, this period will most likely be a reenactment of what you have avoided.

This could be an exact replication of situations you found yourself in during your First Saturn Return, forcing you to encounter it again but this time to overcome it. Or a replication of it that may push you towards finding an alternative route to overcome that obstacle.

On a general note, your Second Saturn Return is heavily dependent on your natal Saturn’s house placement, sign, dignities and aspects as well as planetary transits that are happening during your Second Saturn Return. While things may change, if you have stayed the course according to what your First Saturn Return has directed you towards, you’ll most likely be pursuing journeys that you have forsaken due to previous obligations, or stepping into more of an authoritative position to teach and guide others.

If however, you have steered away from those lessons, this period will most likely be tougher on you. It is however, just a time of alignment for you, towards your higher self.
