Count yourself ‘fortunate’ to have any of these placements. While there are deeper analysis needed to know whether it’s serving you well and how it’s showing up in your life, on a general note, having these placements are considered advantageous.

Dignity Definition by Al-Qabisi

Here are the definitions of certain dignities, according to Al-Qabisi, an Arab Muslim astrologer who passed in the year of 967. Yes, an Arab Muslim astrologer. When you actually dive deeper into not just astrology but also spirituality, you’ll realise certain truths about religion, spirituality and metaphysics. But that is a discussion for another time.

P.S. He wasn’t the only Arab Muslim astrologer.

Domicile = Man at home and in his own rule

Exaltation = Man in his own kingdom and glory

Own Bound = Man among his parents and relatives

Triplicity = Man in his own honour and among his allies and under officials

Own Face = Man in his own mastery

We’ll touch on Domicile, Exaltation and Triplicity in this post.

Domicile Placements

Domicile = Man at home and in his own rule

Sun in Leo
Moon in Cancer
Mercury in Gemini or Virgo
Venus in Taurus or Libra
Mars in Aries or Scorpio
Jupiter in Sagittarius or Pisces
Saturn in Capricorn or Aquarius

The planet is ‘at home’ and able to freely express itself well. Planet and sign is considered to be of the ‘same substance’, more durable, able to utilise its energy when needed.

Exaltation Placements

Exaltation = Man in his own kingdom and glory

Sun in Aries
Moon in Taurus
Mercury in Virgo
Venus in Pisces
Mars in Capricorn
Jupiter in Cancer
Saturn in Libra

The planet is at its best friend’s house, having fun at a party. But also susceptible to overindulgence or self-inflation, not as durable as domicile. Thus, we practice it generally being ‘weaker’ than domicile.

Triplicity Placements

Triplicity = Man in his own honour and among his allies and under officials

Sun, Jupiter, Saturn in Aries, Leo or Sagittarius
Saturn, Mercury, Jupiter in Gemini, Libra or Aquarius
Venus, Moon, Mars in Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn
Venus, Mars, Moon in Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces

While weaker than Domicile or Exaltation placements, it is still able to express its qualities without much opposing influences.

Things To Take Into Consideration

While these can tell you whether the placement you have is generally considered good or not, there are many other factors to take into consideration when truly identifying the planet’s dignity.

  1. Does the native belong to the day or night sect?
  2. Is the planet above or below the horizon?
  3. Is the planet making any aspects to other debilitated planets?
  4. If not in any of these signs, is it at least in its proper face or bound?
  5. Is the planet in its house of joy?
  6. Is the planet combust by the sun or under its beams?
  7. Is the moon void of course?
  8. Is the planet in a cadent, angular or succedent house?
  9. Is the planet direct or retrograde? Fast or slow?
  10. Is the planet in mutual reception to another planet?

There are many considerations to take into account for a planet’s dignity. Do not base your own finding of your own chart just off its sign. To truly understand your chart, look at it from all angles. Of course, it’s always best to consult a professional.

Have some of these placements? The next question to ask yourself is why did you choose to have these good placements? What is it that you need it for? Are you utilising it to its fullest potential?
